The Heart of the Valley Triathlon and Duathlon is a great event for those wanting to try out a new adventure. Especially for those who might be a little bit nervous. As the race directors highlight online, “Keeping with the mission of Best in the West Events to include all ages and ability levels, this sprint triathlon, duathlon and kids tri is welcoming to all. Whether you are looking to do your first triathlon or gunning for the win, come join us!” As someone who hasn’t ridden a bike in mumble-mumble years, that’s an inviting message to me.

There are several options for how to participate in the event. The triathlon includes a 500 yard swim in the Osborn Aquatic Center, followed by a 10.4 mile bike ride, and then finishing up with a three mile run. Duathletes will tackle a 5K run, 11 mile bike ride, and then a second 5K run.

Don’t want to go it alone? Then the relay option is perfect for you. Teams can have 2 or 3 members and split up the course however the team decides. Team members high five or fist bump at the transition areas to tag in the next team member.

All proceeds from the event are going back into the community through the Family Assistance Program. Families in the Corvallis area are able to get involved in physical activities through scholarships that this event, among others, support. What a great way to give back to someone else.
