Race Preview: 2019 Run on the River (Astoria)

Way up there on the list of races I’d like to run if I can make them fit into my schedule is the Run on the River in Astoria. I mean, it’s a race that takes place on the Astoria Riverwalk! This year’s edition is taking place on Sunday, May 19, 2019, with half marathon, 10K, and 5K options available.

Besides a scenic route, the race offers a race shirt and food and drink voucher for the post-race food spread, which will be hosted by the race sponsor, Buoy Beer. What will be available? The race website says it’s a “seafood boil lunch and beverage.” And beverage includes beer if you are 21 or older. (You can also request vegetarian and/or gluten-free meals in advance.) Plus, there are prizes, as in cash for the top 3 male/female half marathoners, and gift certificates for the top 3 male/female 5K and 10K runners.

The one hiccup to note is that due to ongoing construction on the Riverwalk, the race organizer has prepared a detour that will skip about eight blocks of the Riverwalk. The organizer also noted that this detour will make the half marathon course uncertified for the next two years.
