Preview: Oregon Brewery Running Series at Grixsen Brewing

On May 4, the Oregon Brewery Running Series will celebrate living in such a cool place with a 5k starting and finishing at Grixsen Brewing at 1001 SE Division Street in Portland.

If you’ve never participated in an Oregon Brewery Running Series, you’re missing out on a super-chill, supportive, and fun experience. Both runners and walkers (of all paces) are welcomed to these low-key events.

These runs (walks, too!) benefit a number of local non-profits, in this case, the Oregon Brewshed AllianceDollar For Portland, and Life Vest Inside. You can learn about what they’re doing for our community and chat up other participants before the run starts, and then when you finish, you’ll get to choose from Grixsen’s line-up of craft brews.

Our resident beer expert, Matt Rasmussen, says, “They have so many great beers, but if I had to pick a favorite, right now I’d go with their Kiss the Sky.”

You can sign up for the Oregon Brewery Running Series’ Grixsen 5k online here for $30 without the shirt or $40 with the shirt. Their “Run for Beer” shirts are super confortable and really cute, FYI. The run will start at 11a, but it’s a good idea to be there by 10:30a to get your bib and visit the restroom before the run starts.

Something to keep in mind for future events … you can sign up to volunteer! Or get your non-running friends to, and they’ll get to share a pint with you after the run. These events have some of the best volunteer perks of any local race. Volunteers not only get a t-shirt (their first time volunteering), they also get a beer after their shift is over, and they get an entry to an upcoming Oregon Brewery Running Series event. So take a look at which upcoming runs still have the “Volunteer” option listed with the ticket options, and I promise you’ll have a blast! For example, the Migration Brewing Run on May 11 still needs volunteers (click here to sign up). When all the volunteer spots are filled, that option will no longer be available for registration.

About Author

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
