Inaugural Race Preview: 2019 Gresham Lilac Run (SOLD OUT – Plan for 2020!)

Whenever I feel overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of Portland, I love taking the short drive to Main Street in Gresham. My favorite coffee shop is there (Café Delirium) along with some of my favorite antique and consignment shops (including Shop Girl and Foxtrot Vintage). Now this sweet town is adding something new: the city’s first 5K, 10K, and half marathon event.

The Gresham Lilac Run is a non-profit event with all racing fees and donations going to Family of Friends Mentoring.

At Family of Friends, they envision a world where every child and family has access to responsive systems that help them live healthy, meaningful and productive lives. Their mission is to build relationships that elevate kids and families and make our community stronger.

The three distances use trails and paths around Gresham. The 5K is an out and back, the 10K a loop, and the half marathon mixes the best of both worlds. All events start and end at Gresham City Hall. All adult events are currently full, with a waitlist. So, if you want to be involved in 2019, consider volunteering. In the meanwhile, keep an eye out for 2020 registration. For little runners (children ages 12 and younger), there is a free Little Lilac 1K that still has room! The race begins at 10am, and every kid must have an adult with them. All participants registered by March 31st receive a medal at the finish line.

The Gresham Lilac Run is a welcome new addition to our local races, and a great chance to support the families of our community.
