Race Preview: 2019 Black Diamond Trailogy – Episode 2 (Brasada Ranch)

The Black Diamond Trailogy is the 2nd in a series of 3 consecutive year trail races put on by X-Dog Events. This year’s event will start just outside of Brasada Ranch in Central Oregon and includes a 20 mile and 10 mile trail race, as well as a 5K paved run/walk.

The 20 mile trail race will be run on game trails, old skid roads, dirt trails, a small amount of pavement, “and some other odd high desert combinations.” The course will not be revealed in advance, but it will be 2 loops. Runners must bring their own aid, but you can leave supplies at the halfway point aid station to replenish your stash. The halfway point aid station will have electrolytes, water, and other goodies stocked. You will “run through the valleys, canyons and high desert of Central Oregon. Find yourself cresting buttes and filling your lungs full of the freshest air of the high desert! Episode TWO is packed with adventure, 100% wild, 80% trail. A full 200%!!!”

The 10 mile trail race will be run on the same course, but will be just one loop. There will be no aid stations, so plan on carrying your own hydration and nutrition needs. The course promises to “be 1/2 as adventurous, but excessively beautiful.” If you’ve ever participated in an X-Dog Event, you know you to expect the unexpected and plan for a challenging race, regardless of which distance you choose.

The 5K run/walk will be an out and back paved course.

There will be medals for the 20 mile finishers and awards for overall and age group winners for each distance. After the race enjoy the campfire, beer garden, and special campfire food.

If you are coming from out of town, you can stay at the award winning Brasada Ranch Resort or take advantage of the free camping at the start/finish area. (Details about free camping and special rates for Brasada Ranch are on available on the race website. The night before the race, there will be a no host social in the Brasada Ranch Bar and a campfire outside with s’mores. The first 40 people to arrive will receive a free gourmet s’mores kit!
