A quick hour drive from Boise Idaho lays Adrian, Oregon and the location on the Owyhee Off-Road Challenge. This quaint town is nestled in the Owyhee Canyonlands, and offers amazing Snake River Canyon scenery and mountain tops whose views make it worth the climb.
Half Marathon: This race gets you into the Hills and is run 90% on trails. The Snake River Valley scenery is unmatched. This challenging course has runners climbing 700 feet to the top of the Owyhee Mountains. Once Runners have reached the top, the race continues along the stunning Ridge atop the valley below. After the first ascent participants again climb a few more times, each effort culminating in views of the surrounding landscape that are only gained through the perseverance of a steady climb. Although this course is challenging, it is a great way to kick off the 2019 racing season with something that will prepare you for all other races to come. Runners as well as walker are invited to participate in the challenge, just keep in mind there’s a four-hour time limit to finish the half marathon.
10K: The loop course of the 10K race also gets runners off the road and onto the trails. Once on the trail system, an 890 ft climb brings athletes up to the top of the ridge between the Snake River Valley and the Owyhee River Valley. Both Runners and walkers are urged to participate in this event, as there is no time limit for the 10K.
5K: Even the 5K provides participants the reward of incredible views at the end of a arduous climb. This course is an out-and-back, turning around at the top of a 200-foot hill giving participants a view over the scenic Snake River Valley. Walkers, runners, and children participate in this event, as there is no time limit to finish the 5K challenge.
Something to consider, the race location is in the Mountain Time Zone. The half marathon will begin at 10 am, the 10K will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the 5K will start at 11 am. There will be chip timing for all three events.
All the proceeds from these races go towards improvements in the local Adrian School District track. This track is in need of improvement. It is not the standard shape or the standard length. This makes track training for young athletes especially difficult. The shape and distance constraints are coupled with the unimproved surface, contributing to injury and an athlete’s inability to perform basic training maneuvers. The Adrian School District hopes that this track will not only benefit the school itself, but will also be a great resource for this small, tight-knit community. Reach your goals while also helping young runners realize theirs.
There is day-of registration. Please be prepared to pay by cash or check as there will be no access to credit or debit card payments at the location. There are no ATMs in town. Packet pickup is only available the day of the race at 8:00 am . Pickup will be at the Two Rivers Community Center.
