Running Meme and Strava Segment of the Week: Manning TH to Buxton TH

Today’s meme isn’t really even a meme … this is what was on my WTForecast app this afternoon when I went to see whether or not it would be snowing at the Stickmen Run. But it’s funny. (Note: this app frequently employs the use of colorful language.)

This week, our Strava Segment of the Week is on the Vernonia-Banks Trail, from the Manning trailhead to the Buxton trailhead. Those of you training for the Vernonina half or full may want to check the trail out ahead of your race, and there are a lot of segments along the path to fill up your trophy case. The segment Manning TG to Buxton TH is 2.89 miles and is a decent little incline, running from 225 feet to 463 feet over the last mile and a half. It’s a 1% grade, so you’ll notice it.

The current course records are held by Nick Schuetze (18:09) from June 2015 and by Kaitlyn Peale (18:18) from October 2018. 361 different Strava members have recorded a total of 802 attempts on this segment.

About Kelly Barten (1151 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
