Get ready to lace up those running shoes on February 9th, because the final 5k in the PRC Winter 5k Series will be here before you know it. Not only is this your final chance to run in the series for almost a whole year, but its also the one and only predictor race!
In case you don’t know what a predictor race is, this means you cannot wear a tracking device of any kind. Leave your Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Watch, or any other device that will tell you your pace and time at home! You’ll have an opportunity before the race to submit the time you think you’ll finish in, which could be pretty accurate if you’ve run either or both of the first two in the series. Those closest to their predicted times will be the real winners of the day, because this race is not about how fast you are. It’s about how well you know your body and what it can do and for how long. It’s sort of liberating to run without a watch, which is funny because many of us used to do this petty regularly before all the fancy running equipment became such a “thing.” How well do you know yourself? Find out on Feb 9th!!
Like the previous two races of the series (read the first recap here) there is much fun to be had at this Run With Paula event. I rarely do 5k races (I’m a distance runner) so it must be a pretty good one to make me want to leave the house in the winter for such a short distance.
After you finish the well-marked course, come on back to Portand Runnung Company for some grub (December had bagels from Einstein and January had pizza from Dominos,) as well as some much desired coffee to wake up to a little more. The raffle prizes are often worth the cost of admission alone, as PRC gives away shirts, mugs, mugs, hats, and many other cool things. Standing in the warmth of the store is a real selling point too.
I personally am looking so forward to the last PRC race of the Winter Series and hanging out with all the fun people who come. There were close to 400 people for the January race, so it should be a real party for the last!!
