By now, we all know that many runs offer beer at the finish line – a prize for our efforts, a celebration of the accomplishment, a refreshing way to forget how undertrained we feel, and an all around way to say “I’ve earned it”. If you didn’t already know, there is the Oregon Brewery Running Series, which features family-friendly 5Ks throughout the year that start and end at some of the best breweries around. More on that in a bit, though.
To kick off the 2019 season, the OBRS is partnering with the Oregon Historical Society and their Barley, Barrels, Bottles, & Brews: 200 Years of Oregon Beer exhibit for the year’s kickoff event! On Saturday, January 19th from 6-8 PM there will be beer, food, access to the exhibit, and a raffle in an open-house style event. Come anytime in that 2 hour timeframe (though the raffle will be around 7 PM) to eat, drink, and take advantage of the discounted registration for the 5K series as well!
It’s a cheap date night at only $7, plus a portion of the registration fee will be donated to the Historical Society and also to support the work of other OBRS non-profit partners: The Oregon Brewshed Alliance, Dollar For Portland, and Life Vest Inside.
There are about 20 scheduled 5Ks in the series from February to November, each starting and finishing at an Oregon brewery. There are big name spots like Laurelwood and Migration, but also feature some in other great places throughout the state, such as Crux Fermentation in Bend and Fort George in Astoria.
Registration for the running events is $30 per race (unless otherwise stated), which will give all participants 1 local beer, seasonal merchandise or collector’s glassware, and opportunities for brewery tours, product demos, special giveaways, and an invitation to enjoy the days’ scheduled festivities, often live music, food, games, and more! If you’re attending the kickoff party on 1/19, you can get up to 50% off the full season pass (for $300, run all 20 events!), go for the half season pass for $180 or the quarter season for $105.
Run Oregon will be at the Historical Society for the launch and I’m sure we’ll be around many of these 5Ks. We’d love to see you out there!
