Race Preview: 2019 Roaring Run Half, 10K, & 5K (Scio)

Superbowl Sunday is often filled with chili, nachos, football-shaped cakes, chips and dip, and other delicious food…why not preemptively strike by kicking off the weekend with a half, 10K, or 5K in Scio on Saturday at the Roaring Run!?

At the Roaring River County Park on Saturday, February 2, the annual Roaring Run will take runners on rural roads with scenic views of rivers, forests, mountains, pastures, and a covered bridge!

We all feel the effects of half marathon costs rising and luckily this event is as affordable as it is beautiful. The half is $42, 10K is $32, and 5K $27 (all have additional $3 online fee). For those expecting to take longer than 2.5 hours in the half marathon have the option of an 30 minute early start time, as well.

In years past, there have been mid-race “games” to play along the way, such as the Musical Mile Marker (at each mile marker on the half marathon course, there will be music playing. Listen closely to the music, and remember it from mile marker to mile marker. There will be a theme, or connection, between each piece of music playing at each mile marker. At the finish line, you can guess what the theme or connection was, and be entered into a drawing). Run Oregon remembers this as a unique and interesting way for racers to connect with the event; hopefully they have something similar for 2019!

Course maps from previous years can be found here and if you’re ready to register, go here! Prices increase on January 4th.
