Destination Runcation: 2019 Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona (Phoenix, Scottsdale, & Tempe)

The Rock ‘n’ Roll series has become a major bucket list item for many runners. With bands lining the courses, well-designed medals and shirts, and a coordinated team of staff behind the scenes, it’s like Disneyland coming to you for the weekend. And I’ll be honest, for the cost of those races, there is a lot of expectation when you sign up.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona will be the opportunity to engage in this experience 150%. Multiple races are spread across three days, so a runner could participate in three different races on three different days, and spend time running or walking in three different cities in a metro area: Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe.

The weekend begins with a 1-miler on Friday night, and then a 5K on Saturday morning (there is also a kids run that morning). On Sunday is when the big options come into play: 10K, half marathon, or full marathon. Each race has a separate registration and separate fee. But that also means a new shirt and a new medal for each one. A writer for the event describes what it’s like to run around the state for 72 hours. Check it out before you decide your adventure.

And then at the end of the run, like all Rock ‘n’ Roll experiences, is the promise of a major concert. Plain White T’s will be performing on Sunday after the half marathon / marathon finish. No matter what distance you run, you’re invited to come over and rock with your fellow athletes.
