Race Preview: 2018 Beat the Blerch 5k/10k (Seattle)

It’s that time of year where the skies get gloomier, the wind gets colder, and the streets get wetter. This is the perfect time to register for a race to help you find that motivation to get out the door and run. The 2018 Beat the Blerch 5k/10k in Washington is on December 1st, and this is your chance!

Have you heard of The Blerch? This guy, Mathew Inman, is known as The Oatmeal, and you may have read his online comic about The Blerch. The Blerch is referred to as a “fat little cherub who follows me when I run” and he’s that naughty voice of self doubt in your head that tells you you don’t really want to run or that the hill ahead is more than you can handle. This run is all about knocking that Blerch on his fat fanny and running circles around him. And having lots of fun doing it too!

Get it done!! Dress up in your ugliest holiday sweater, put on some blinky lights and trek around Green Lake with The Oatmeal, who will be signing books after the race. Hot chocolate and cookies at Road Runner Sports will also be waiting if you need more inspiration.

No dogs or strollers are allowed for this race but you’ll get a shiny new Beat the Blerch medal when you’re done. This is a fun run, so it will be a super casual event. One loop will take you on a 5k (ish) and two loops will take you on the 10k (ish) around Green Lake. Have fun with it, bring your friends, and commiserate over the weather with the hot chocolate at the end.
