Race Preview: 2018 EWEB Run To Stay Warm 5k/10k/Half Marathon (Eugene)

Maybe you’re thinking that you’d like to get a race in before all the family and holiday plans get too hectic. The 2018 EWEB’s Run to Stay Warm features a Half Marathon, a 10k, a 5k, and a Kid’s 400 Meter Dash and it’s on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, (November 18th, 2018.) This event takes place at the EWEB Headquarters in Eugene, where you’ll get a chance to follow in Prefontaine’s footsteps along the Willamette River.

The race is for a good cause too, with proceeds benefiting EWEB’s Customer Care Program which helps struggling families with their utility bills in the cold winter months ahead.

The course for this race begins and ends at the River Edge Plaza which is next to the EWEB Headquarters. The courses follow paved bike paths along the Willamette River. The 5k course, which can be viewed here, starts at 9:15AM and runs past the historic Autzen Stadium and Alton Baker Park. The 10k, which also starts at 9:15AM, stays on the bike path along the Willamette River and it can be viewed here.  The Half Marathon starts at 9:00AM and will have water, fuel, and restroom access. Check it out here. The Kid’s 400 Meter Dash is free and there is no registration required, so make a game day decision  and get them out there for their race at 8:30AM before you start yours. They will get goodies when they finish their race!

The cost of this race is $30 for the 5k, $40 for the 10k, and $60 for the Half Marathon. Prices will increase after November 1st and race shirts are not included in the cost but can be purchased for an additional $15.  Registration includes coffee and hot chocolate from Full City Coffee Roasters, a free post-race beverage, and a medal for half marathoners. Local food will be available from the Franz Bakery Grilled Cheese Truck and there will be hot bowls of soup waiting at the after-party. The Tap & Growler is also just a block from the finish line. There will also be pacers on the course and awards for age group winners and for the Kids 400 Meter Dash.

All are welcome for this event! The course will be open for 3.5 hours to accommodate walkers (approximately 16:00 per mile pace,) and wheelchairs are allowed as well as baby strollers (please stay to the back of the pack with strollers.) Ipods and headphones are also allowed, but please exercise caution and be mindful of the volume. Unfortunately, animals will not be allowed on the course.

Kick off the holidays with a little sweat!
