Race Preview: 2018 Under Armour Mountain Series 50k/18k/10k/5k (Mt. Bachelor) DISCOUNT CODE inside!!

The most memorable and fun events I ran last year were with two of the three Under Armour Mountain Series races. I was fortunate enough to run the relay option at Mt. Bachelor with some friends and the half marathon at Copper Mountain in Colorado This year, the distances and options have changed, but I can’t wait to get out on that mountain near Bend again. I’ll be running the 50k at the 2018 Under Armour Mountain Running Series Mt. Bachelor event on September 15th.

If the thought of running a 50k along the gorgeous but challenging course at Mt. Bachelor seems a little scary to you, don’t despair. There will also be an 18k, a 10k, and a 5k option and all of the races will be gorgeous and unique. The cascade volcano surroundings will be spectacular to enjoy while you’re trekking along the single track terrain.

The company Under Armour, which have stepped up their game in the trail running market in recent years, created this series and offered it for the first time last year. Participants have three amazing locations to get their run on. In addition to races in Mt. Bachelor and Copper Mountain, there’s also the option of Killington which is located in Vermont. All of the locations are stunning and all offer various options to make this a memorable experience.

The 50k course, which can be viewed here, has 7 aid stations and begins at West Village base at Mt Bachelor. Prepare for some gorgeous trails that will offer you the flavor of why Mt. Bachelor is so epic.

The 18k course is new this year and will take you on a tour ‘Around the Mountain’ with a climb right from the get go and 4 aid stations at your disposal. Mt. Bachelor is the 6th largest ski mountain per acre in the world, so earn your bragging rights and be one of the first to run around it! View that course here.

The 10k, like the 18k, will start by running up the Home Run Ski Trail and will surely get your quads pumping on a great single track trail. There are 2 aid stations for this distance and you can see what you’re in for here.

Finally, the 5k, which has 1 aid station, will begin where the 18k and 10k did and take you on a scenic jaunt through some of the most beautiful mountain trails of Central Oregon. Check it out here.

The swag you’ll get for this race is pretty sweet too. For the cost of entry, you’ll get your bib and timing chip, a finisher’s medal, an Under Armour Long Sleeve Technical Running Tee, and 3-Month MVP MapMyRun Access to Training Plans, Nutrition, and Insider Product Content. Also, new in 2018, you can track the course while you race on the RunGO App which can be found in your Android or iOS Store. Use code RUNOREGON20 to receive 20% off your registration for the race of your choice!

Unfortunately, Mt Bachelor doesn’t offer overnight accommodations, but the base communities of Bend and Sun River are only about 20-25 minutes away and will provide you with a super fun weekend away if that’s your plan. Whether you want to rent a condo or a home, a hotel or an AirBNB, it’s all available. Bring your family and friends for the mountain biking, disc golf, and hiking. And you don’t have to leave your dog behind either, as the mountain is pet friendly as well.

Last year, I really enjoyed meeting some of the friendly and amazing elite runners at this low-key event, and YiOu Wang, Kelly Wolk, Kyle Dietz, Bryan Tolbert, Cameron Hames and the 50k defending champion Cody Reed will likely all be coming back for seconds!! I’ll be bringing my husband for a weekend away and can’t think of many other places I’d rather be than on the trails.
