Race Preview: 2018 Run the Rock 50M / 50K / Half (Terrebonne)

As we all enjoy the tail end of summer (some of us melting in the heat), it seems like November is ages away! However, these epic runs require some training, so put them on your radar and start logging some miles early!

The Run the Rock events are back on November 10-11, 2018 to offer more spectacular trail running at Smith Rock in central Oregon. New for this year is the splitting of the events, with the 50M and 50K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday (anyone keen for a double feature?).

Don’t miss these awesome events hosted by our friends at Alpine Running!

Half Marathon | Sunday, November 11, 2018 | Start time: 9:00 AM | Price: $75
This challenging and scenic trail half is 13.1 miles with 90% on singletrack and roughly 2,700 feet of elevation gain. Runners will have 3 aid stations for this course and stop to enjoy the views – there is no cutoff!

50K | Saturday, November 10, 2018 | Start time: 7:30 AM | Price: $120
The 50K is generally along the same course as the 50M, but runners have the privilege of doing a short loop up Misery Ridge to begin, passing the flanks of Monkey Face. This course has about 4,500 feet of gain and loss with ~85% on singletrack with 4 aid stations. There is one cut-off time: aid station 4 (mile 26.5) at 3 PM. Sorry, no drop bags or pacers for this distance!

There is a new parking situation in 2018 for 50K runners only! Due to limited parking at the start/finish line, runners signed up for the 50K must park off-site at DD Ranch . There will be a free shuttle and parking.

50M | Saturday, November 10, 2018 | Start time: 7:00 AM | Price: $135
The 50M course will be twice around a 25-mile loop with about 7,500 feet of gain. Runners will get about 80% of this course on singletrack with 7 aid stations. There are 2 cut-off times: aid station 4 (mile 25.5) at 12:30 PM and aid station 7 (mile 46.6) by 5 PM. Drop bags are allowed at AS4, which is the start/finish aid station, but sorry, no pacers allowed! Also, the 50M is worth 4 UTMB points.

**Please note that Alpine Running is cupless, so be prepared at the aid stations to have your own cup / bottle / bladder / etc. Also, sorry but no dogs are allowed on the course due to permit conditions!**

Runners can pick up their packets on Friday, 11/9 at FootZone in Bend from 3 – 6:30 PM or on race day starting at 5:30 AM. Half marathoners and 50 milers, remember to bring $5 to pay for parking at Smith Rock.

East Meets West Fusion will be at the finish line again with their great food truck free for runners and volunteers, and, as always, there will be free beer! The top 3 male and female winners will receive prizes, and there will be raffle prizes to give out as well.

The beneficiary of this event is the Redmond High School cross country team and they’ll be volunteering at some of the aid stations on race day!
