If you have visited downtown Portland, near 3rd and Burnside, you have seen the famous “Keep Portland Weird” sign! A common theme for Portland, and a theme for this year’s PORTLANDATHON I am so excited to run this new race, starting and ending at Naito and SW Salmon! Dave and Paula Harkins of Portland Running Company have been working long hours making this race special. Paula’s races always seem to have a special touch to them.
The courses are out-and-backs and from the looks, could be helpful for some fast times! One thing I love is running across the St. John’s Bridge. The Marathon course, allows for crossing this bridge two times! The Marathon is USATF Certified/Boston Qualifier. Check out this great map for more details on the half marathon, full marathon and the 5-mile race. Even more maps can be found here
The course will be well supported with pace groups by Team Red Lizard. You will receive “Out of this world” medals for the full and half! A really cool T-Shirt, Rogue Beer and Live Music by HIT MACHINE! There will also be samples by White Claw and Finish food by Stanford’s! Photos will be taken by Gordon Cully, so be sure and smile as you run by! The course will be stocked with water, gatorade and clif shots. The course will also have stations with OHSU sports medicine teams lead by OHSU’s Dr Ryan Petering. Mountain Wave Search and Rescue will also be on course for participants safety and protection.
Will you bring some weirdness to downtown Portland this October 7th and join me for the 2018 Portlandthon? I know I don’t want to miss out!
