Race Preview: Inaugural Gnar Gnar 6M (Mt. Hood)

“Climb up. Scream down”. Our good friends at Go Beyond Racing have a new race on their docket and it’s…gnarly!

Typically known for their scenic and challenging ultra runs, Go Beyond Racing’s new Gnar Gnar event is small, but mighty. Just a quick 6 miles on Mt. Hood Skibowl but with a quad-trashing 1,900 feet of gain (and subsequent loss).

On Sunday, August 26th, runners will start at Mt. Hood Skibowl, run up the Gnar Gnar trail for ~1 mile, continue on Low Road for ~1.5 miles, climb up Horse Trail and Skyline Road to the top, then down Sunrise Trail, connecting back to Gnar Gnar for the finish. Easy enough?

There is 1 aid station at the very top, which will have water, GU, and electrolytes. As always, Go Beyond Racing is cupless, so plan accordingly.

The course closes at 10:15 am and all runners must leave the top of Gnar Gnar by 10:00 am. Anyone who doesn’t make this cutoff will ride back down with the volunteers… or take the Alpine Slide down!

This event is perfect for spectators, as they can watch you start up the Gnar Gnar trail, and catch you flying back down to the finish line. There are a ton of fun activities at Skibowl so bring everyone and hang out all day.

I’ll be there working on my hill training – hope to see you!
