Have you ever visited Post Canyon in Hood River? You’ll have a great excuse to on August 11st for the 2018 Post Canyon 50k & Half Marathon.
The race takes place at a Hood River County Forestry tree farm property, and the half will climb 2,500 feet and the 50k will ascend about 5,700 feet, so you’ll get a challenge if you are interested in one. Racers will start on semi-flat land but will dip up and down several times and there will be many turns. The terrain will not be smooth sailing either, with plenty of rocks and roots and varied conditions of nature for you to hop, skip, and jump over. There’s even a rocky section called “the Boulders of Hell.” Don’t worry though, as you will be well cared for at the aid stations and beyond. There will be marking tape, chalk spray, and signage where the half and 50k diverge from each other, plus lots of random people out there to cheer you on where you need it. Be on the lookout for costumed locals who will visit you from the woods and please be aware that changes in the course could occur at the last minute due to this race being located on a tree farm where anything could happen. This is all in the spirit of getting out there and having an adventure and the race promises to be both scenic and memorable.
This race will be cupless, and all races MUST carry a hand held 24 oz (or more) water bottle or hydration pack or belt. There are also no earbuds or pets allowed, and refunds, bib swapping, and transfers are not permitted. There will be an 8 hour cut off for the 50k participants and sturdy tread trail shoes are very strongly recommended.
All finishers will get a “Post Canyon Destiny” prize card which will allow participants to redeem some awesome prizes at the local businesses in town. There will also be random prize drawings at the finish line party, along with cold beer and food.
The start/finish (Binns Hill Staging Area) has camping for $10 on a first come, first serve basis. There’s also free camping (up to 2 weeks) beyond the staging area on county forestry land. Come check it all out and make a long weekend of it.
