2018 Races on our Radar #30 – July 17

Welcome to the latest in the Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, be sure to let us know with our contact form. Tell us what you love about it and be sure to include a link.

The Viking Vengeance is a really well-organized community run that benefits Forest Grove Schools. Sign up for the 10k or 5k for $30. The race is on Thursday, July 19 at 6:30p.

There is still room to sign up for this Saturday’s Ladybug Run, which is for a great cause. The 10k is $50 and the 5k is $45 for this event held at Tigard’s Cook Park.

Our friends at the Oregon Brewery Running Series have a run (or walk! or volunteer!) this Saturday at Migration Brewing in close-in NE Portland (28th & Glisan).

The Run Northbest is a Wednesday-night 4-race series coming this August to South Beaverton. The series is $35 for the 5k distance and $50 for the 10k distance. All runs are from Murrayhill Park, and all participants 21+ get a beer from Deschutes Brewery after the race!

The Bowerman 5k is on July 28 in Beaverton. This race on the Nike Campus raises funds for the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund. Sign up for $35 before July 22, after which it’s $40.

The Sisters Happy Girls Half has a price increase on 8/1. Sign up before then for the 5k for $30, or the half for $75. The race is on November 3.

The Timothy Lake Half on September 15 near Government Camp is $65 until August 1, and then it’s $75.

Here are some races coming up this weekend if you’re looking for something fun to do, including good ones for the kids that are for a great price (one of them is free!):

  • The Beaverton Sun Run on Sunday, July 22 has a free run for the kiddos 10 and under. It will likely be an obstacle course set up in the ADAPT Training gym with a little running. Sign up the little ones at the race; you can sign up for the 5k or 10k online here.
  • The PJ’s to Pancakes is a youth run, with a mile for the little ones and a 5k for the little-bit-older ones. The youth run is $4 online/$5 DOR and the 5k is $8 online/$10 DOR. Participants are encouraged to wear their jams, and there’s a pancake breakfast at the finish line! The race is Sunday, July 22 in West Linn starting at 8a (kids)/8:15a (5k).

About Kelly Barten (903 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
