Wanting a flat, fast, USATF certified course this summer? The 2018 Scandia Run has a 10k, a 5k, and even a Scandia Jr. ¼ miler for the beginning runners. This year, the Junction City race will be held on August 11th.
The 10k course, which is a part of the USATF Oregon Road Race Series, will start at 6th and Deal and proceed through some scenic farm country before returning back to Lyle Day Park. There will be aid station crossings with water available 3 times along the route. The 5k course will follow the 10k course just past the first aid station before looping back to the park. There is also the option of the Scandia Jr. race, which is a ¼ mile non-timed run and includes some Dari Mart drinks after participants celebrate crossing the finish.
If running is a team sport for you, you can form a team at no extra cost and the top 5 finishers per team will have their times averaged for a team score. There will be both business and open divisions in the 5k and 10k races and the top 3 teams will receive prizes for the top 5 runners on their team.
There will be refreshments at the finish line that will be provided courtesy of Dari Mart. This will be a wheelchair friendly course, but dogs, bikes, and motorized vehicles will be prohibited. Strollers are discouraged but allowed, so if you decide to bring one, please be courteous and stay off to the right hand side of the race so that faster runners can pass easily.
The cost of both the 5k and 10k is only $20 ($30 if you want a technical race shirt) for adults and $15 for those under 11. The cost of the Scandia Jr. is $12 and race registration for this distance includes a cotton t-shirt. But hurry, because the prices goes up after 8/4!
