Coming back to West Linn for the 4th year is the PJ’s to Pancakes 5k and 1-mile Kids run. The event will start in Willamette Park, which is right on the river and will follow Volpp Street along the way. The event did see a nice sized 123 runners last year, including 13 who ran 20 minutes or under. The event directors want everyone to come out in the pajamas and run the event as a family. Afterwards, stick around for a free breakfast (I bet I can guess what they will be serving).

Now HERE is an awesome race with an awesome back story. Carlie’s Kindness Campaign was started by Carlie when she was 9 years old. Here’s her vision in her own words:
My mission is to change the world with kindness, because it doesn’t matter how old you are, you CAN make a difference! I choose projects that are close to my heart and enlist my community’s support to help spread kindness! So far I’ve raised $2500 in toys & games for kids going through chemo, sent Christmas gifts to our Military Servicemen & Women overseas, delivered baked goods to local fire and police departments, created a program at my school to promote RESPECT for people with special needs and disabilities[…]held a hurricane/flood relief supply drive for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, hosted a Veteran & Active Duty Appreciation Lunch, and now I visit schools around the state for my “Being Kind is Cool” assembly program to show kids the importance of kindness and service to your community!
Carlie’s Kindness Campaign has created an easy way for people to spread kindness, and actively participate in making the world a better place. Because my organization helps with all kinds of issues and needs, each project is new and exciting, and draws people of all ages, backgrounds and lifestyles to help me make each project happen! My hope is that I inspire people to do good things for others, and to show them that when people come together to help, amazing things can happen.
Wow. Just wow.
This is her second year for her Annual Kindness Rocks 5K, which benefits “Our Military Kids“, an organization that provides support to the children of deployed military, as well as to the children of Wounded Warriors. This entity assists with “programs that nurture and sustain children while a parent is away in service to our country or recovering from injury”.
Come decked out in red, white, and blue to Riverfront Park in downtown Salem on July 22nd. If you can’t make it out, consider making a donation and running it virtually. It’s worth it.
