Race Preview: 2018 Sunset on Springwater (Portland)

Unlike many race events in the Portland metro, Sunset on the Springwater is one where you won’t have to worry about being chilly at the start. This August evening run should have plenty of sunshine for you, and thankfully plenty of water startions too.

Last year was my first time trying out this event, and I am already signed up for 2018. The race is an out-and-back, using Sellwood Riverfront Park for the after-party. Participants in the 10K and half-marathon receive a commemorative medal. And everyone also gets an amazing meal afterward. A year later and I still remember that BBQ pork. Yum.

The course primarily utilizes Springwater Trail, which is of course gorgeous during the summer months. I do want to warn the half marathoners that there is a side-loop you will go through both directions that has a significant incline involved. While most of the course is flat, add a few hills into your training now, and thank me later.\
