What Run Oregon is Wearing: Apex Merino Tech Tee from Showers Pass

We first heard about Showers Pass gear back in March. This was unfortunate as Showers Pass is a Portland-based company that specializing in waterproof and otherwise weather-resistant garments for cyclists, runners, and other active Pacific Northwesterners. We tried out a long-sleeve top and some socks, and are back to briefly talk about one of their summer options – the Apex Merino Tech Tee.

The Amex comes in two standard colors – blue and black. There isn’t much fanciness to the general look – they instead leave that to the construction itself. While Merino wool qualities aren’t new to most people out there (quick-drying, breathable, moisture-wicking, anti-stink, etc), there is some hidden gems in this top. It’s super lightweight and has some solid flatlock stitching to keep chafing non-existent in trouble spots like the side panels and sleeves. It’s also UPF 40 to keep the suns rays ahead.

However, I like the little things, and those things in this top are the small zipped pocket on the side, the longer length to the back, and the Raglan sleeves. The zipped pocket is perfect for stashing stuff away, especially handy in those running shorts that don’t have pockets. It hides away well – so well that the first few times I put it on, I didn’t even know it was there. The long back is probably more designed for those mountain bikers in the audience, but I still really enjoy it nonetheless. I think the whole top could be just a little bit longer overall (for tall torso’d gents like me), but the added length at the back was still a nice touch. And sleeves aren’t generally something to get worked up about, but I found that running in the tighter Raglan sleeve that extends over the bicep was quite different and comfortable.

Overall, this is a definite quality top. I am wearing it more and more in my rotation, and although the price tag is a bit high, it’s a multi-use top that can be your go-to for all your outdoor activities. Plus it’s built and delivered right here in PDX!
