Race Preview: 2018 Siskiyou Outback Trail Run (Ashland)

If you love trail running, I can think of very few places to run as beautiful as the Pacific Crest Trail. On July 28th, come out to the 20th annual Siskiyou Out Back Trail Run, also known as The SOB, and experience a race that travels the PCT as well as the roads that parallel it. There are three distance options for you: There’s a 15k, which is limited to 250 participants, a 50k for 275 registrants, and a 50 Miler which is limited to 175 people. Registration for the 50k and 50 Miler are limited to those 18 and older unless the participant has the race director’s consent.

Camp out on the mountain Friday night before the big race, and The Mt. Ashland Association will serve you a pasta dinner (beer and wine also available) for $10 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM and there will be a Trails in Motion Film Festival available to watch from 8:00PM to 9:00PM. Early on race morning, there will be a $2 breakfast served.

All three of the distances begin and end at the Mt. Ashland Lodge, which is at 6500 feet in altitude. There will be gorgeous views along the PCT of Mt Shasta, Mt McLaughlin, and the mountain ranges of the Siskiyou and Cascades. The 50k has a course elevation of approximately 4200 feet and the 50 Miler will challenge you with about 7000 feet of terrain to climb.

Both the 50k and 50 Mile finishers will receive 32 oz Klean Kanteen insulated growlers and the 50 Miler participants will also receive a ceramic finishers mug. All participants receive finisher medallions and t-shirts. Some awesome coffee steins will also be available for purchase for $25.

All 50 Mile and 50k participants will get a post-race meal (with a veggie option) after celebrating their finish. 15k participants and non-runners can also purchase a meal if they want one.
