Race Preview: 2018 Ladybug Run for CDH Awareness (Tigard)

The 7th annual Ladybug Run for CDH Awareness will be held on July 21, 2018 at Cook Park in Tigard. This is a 5K, 10K, and two-person 10K relay event with the primary goal to promote awareness of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). The foundation describes CDH as:

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is a congenital malformation (birth defect) of the diaphragm in which a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest and restrict lung development. Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a birth defect that occurs in about one in every 2,500 live births. It is characterized by the development, very early in gestation, of a hole in the diaphragm, the breathing muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. The hole occurs most commonly on the left side. As a result, the intestines and other organs in the abdomen can move into the chest and compress the developing lungs. This prevents the lungs from growing and developing normally, which can cause reduced blood flow to the lungs and pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation).

CDH is a serious birth defect that occurs in 1 out of approximately 2,500 births and has a fatality rate of nearly 50%. All of the race entry fees and product sales for the event will go directly to help children and families who have been affected by CDH. Last year the very generous event sponsors covered the entire cost of the race and the event was able to raise $30,000+ to benefit the Ladybug CDH Foundation.

The course is walker and stroller friendly and will feature views of the Tualatin River, lovely Tigard neighborhoods, and Cook Park. The 10K runners will enjoy the Fanno Creek Greenway Trail and a small section through the woods.

The finish line will have food, drinks (including Ordnance Brewing, Pelican Brewing, and Atlas Cider for those 21+), and music!
