2018 Races on our Radar #27 – June 26

Welcome to the latest in the Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, be sure to let us know with our contact form. Tell us what you love about it and be sure to include a link.

This weekend, here’s what we found for low-cost races:

  • The Rocket Run in The Dalles (at Lewis & Clark Festival Park) on June 30th at 7:30a, and if you mail in your entry form by June 28 (THIS THURSDAY) registration is only $10. There is a 1k, 3k, 5k, and 10k. DOR registration is only $15 (these are the no-shirt price options) so it’s still a great deal.
  • There’s a fun “5k Run and Outdoor Skills Challenge” scheduled for June 30th in Monmouth. It’s at the EE Wilson Wildlife Area and trained outdoor instructors will let you try out (if you want to – these activities are not required as part of the race) tracking, archery, trap shooting, fly-fishing, bird identification, in addition to the 5k run. The cost to sign up is only $20.
  • Out on the Oregon coast, you can run in the Miss Oregon Crown Town 5k Fun Run on the 30th at 9a for just $20. The race is at beautiful Camp Rilea near Warrenton.

Remember to sign up for the SW5k on Sunday, July 8 in Beaverton! It’s still only $10. I love this race – it’s a great price, great fun, and supportive of speedsters and those looking for a leisurely stroll.

The Beaverton Sun Run has a price increase on July 3. The race is on Sunday, July 22 and until the 3rd, the 5k is $30 and the 10k is $35.

The flat & fast Bowerman 5k is scheduled for Saturday, July 28, and if you sign up by July 15 the price is $35. This is a great 5k on the Nike campus and proceeds go to the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund.

The Pacific NW Marathon was SOLD OUT already (the race is on Saturday, September 15 in Eugene/Coburg/Harrisburg) but the RD’s opened another 250 spots. If you want to run this one sign up soon and don’t let this 2nd chance slip by.

The Boring Marathon has a price bump coming up on June 30, and they’re getting close to filling up. Through the 29th, the full is $85, the half is $60, the 8k is $37.50, and the 4-person relay is $90. And there are only 32, 109, 39, and 36 spots remaining, respectively. Despite the “boring” name, this Sunday, September 16th event is a beautiful run and a well-organized race.

Heads up if you’re planning to register for a Gorgeous Series Relay – the prices for two of their relays increase July 18. On that day,  the Gorgeous Relay (September 16), and the Gorgeous Coast Relay (October 6) will all see a price increase from $100 (for a solo runner)/$600 (for a team of 6) to $110/$660.

The Aquafina Butte to Butte 10k in Eugene on July 4 is a competitive race, but is pretty fun no matter your pace. And it’s only $25 if you sign up online ahead of time.

The Haulin’ Aspen Marathon, Half Marathon, and 6.5-miler “Half As” has a price increase around July 10. Sign up before then to save $5. The full is currently $75, the half is $50, and the Half As is $35.

That’s what we got for you right now! Check back every Tuesday at 7p for the latest & greatest.

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
