Perhaps you’ve heard of the Tour des Chutes bike event in Bend, but did you know there is also a 5K run included in the weekend? The COPA Family 5K Run/Walk was added in 2014 to honor Bend runner, Johanna Olson, who died of cancer in 2013 at the age of 34. This non-competitive 5K is sponsored by Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA). The 5K directly benefits the Pediatric Foundation, a local non-profit which provides financial support to families who have a child with cancer and must travel out of the area to receive life saving treatments.
The 5K begins at Pacific Crest Middle School then follows well-established gravel roads and paved walkways through the Tree Farm neighborhood before returning to the main venue. The route features excellent territorial views and two fully stocked aid stations. Afterwards, stick around for the pancake party from 8:30-10:30 A.M. Your registration includes a free ticket for this event. Strollers and children are welcome, but please leave your pets at home.
