Race Preview: 2018 Aquafina Butte to Butte (Eugene)

Come out to Eugene for the 4th of July this year to run the 2018 Aquafina OTC Butte to Butte. There will be a 5k and a 10k run, as well as the 4.5 Mile Mayor’s Walk. This race is USATF Sanctioned and Certified.

Since this is a point to point race, there will be shuttles available at the corner of 5th Avenue and Pearl Street for runners and at the bus stop at 4th and Mill Street for walkers starting at 6:30AM every 5 minutes. The last departure (for the 10k and 4M) will be at 7:30AM so don’t be late, as there will not be shuttles taking finishers back to the start after they complete the race. 10k Run and 4 Mile Walks are strongly encouraged to use the shuttle, but if you feel you need to park close to the start line, please DO NOT park along 43rd (between Mill and Fox Hollow,) 42nd (between Mill and Pearl,) Pearl Street (between 42nd and 46th,) or on 46th (between Willamette and Donald.)

If you’d like to make this a team competition, you have that option as well. There are a few team affiliations to choose from in the drop down menu while registering, and you can have as many or as few members of your team as you wish. The first five finishers on a team will have their times added for a total team time.

There are various packet pick-up options for this race, and there will be NO race day registration, so sign up now! Packets will be available on race day ONLY to registrants outside of the Springfield/Eugene area. Also, if you order a shirt, it must be picked up at packet pick-up, NOT on race day. You do have the option of having other people pick up your packet for you.

There will be 6 water stations out on the course as well as a clothing shuttle available. Strollers are welcome, though you should make sure that yours will fit on the shuttle to the start. Please try to stay to the right on the course if you do have a little one in a stroller. Dogs will not be allowed on the race course. There will be several local bands out on the course, so have fun and enjoy yourself while you run!!

There’s a new finish line this year on 5th Street, (between High and Pearl) which is also where the post-race celebration will be. The 5th Street Public Market will have live music and refreshments to look forward to. There will be food specials (thanks to the 5th Street Public Market food court vendors) inside the market, so be sure to check that out while you are there.

There will be awards for the top three 10k teams in each division and there will also be some race challenges including youth, masters, seniors, King/Queen of the Uphill and King/Queen of the Downhill. There will be prize money awarded to winners, so stick around for that. There’s also the Alumni Challenge, in which race participants indicate in the registration process which high school they graduated from. A score is assignedmbased on age and sex and the top scoring school wins the challenge! South Eugene High School wins every year, so give them a run for their money out there!

The profits from this race support the Oregon Track Club programs including the summer meets for kids, UO promotional activities, and maintenance of Pre’s Trail. Technical microfiber t-shirts will be available at packet pickup but will be in limited supply, so please register early to guarantee you get one.
