While surviving my first ultra-marathon earlier this spring, there were moments when I stopped in the middle of a trail, just looking around at the amazing beauty. I would take a few deep breaths, appreciating the chance to run (or at many times walk) through places that so many people never see. Trail running is worth every drop of blood, sweat, and tears that goes into it.
Especially when the views are like those promised in the inaugural Wy’east Wonder 50M and 50K race this June. The trail photographs from the website are worthy of framed art on the wall. Tragically the races are already sold out for this year, so the wait list is the only hope for 2018. But I still want you to know about this event to see if its something you want to try for in 2018, or plan for in 2019. Plus you can use this as an introduction to all of the race events put on by Go Beyond Racing.
The 50M and 50K primarily utilize the same point-to-point trail, with the longer distance folks adding on extra miles through a loop mid-race. There is no parking at the start or finish lines, so runners will be shuttled in from Red Barn Park. The race directors share on their website about using some of the newer trails on the mountain, so you are promised an adventure. You are also promised lots of great snacks at the multiple aid stations, and then at the post-race party. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers from each distance, and everyone will be entered into raffle drawings.
