2018 Races on our Radar #17: April 24

Welcome to the latest in the Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, be sure to let us know with our contact form. Tell us what you love about it and be sure to include a link.

The biggest news this week was definitely the Department of Justice announcement regarding the Portland Marathon. Read Run Oregon’s view on it and fill out an anonymous survey to share your thoughts and ideas here.

The most important local running news though, to many who know the value of Girls on the Run, is that Running Buddy registration opens up on May 1. Get more details and find the link to register online here. The 2018 GOTR 5k will be on May 19 at 9a at PIR.

Here are the low-cost (or free!) races in Oregon and SW Washington this weekend:

  • The Tracy Hoffman Memorial Run is a free run this Saturday the 28th at McColloch Stadium in Salem. The 1 mile starts at 11a and the 5k at noon.
  • Also on Saturday is the Stayton River Run (in Stayton, natch) which is only $10. There’s a 5k, a 10k, and a kids run.
  • In Baker City, you can run the Truffle Shuffle 5k or 10k on Saturday for only $20. Get the info here.
  • In The Dalles, the Cherry Festival 3k/5k/10k will run on Saturday – not a lot of details online but in the past this has been only about $15 to sign up for and it’s a really fun event.

The Oregon Brewery Running Series has a run this Saturday from one of my favorite local breweries: Lompoc. The festivities are at their taphouse on N. Williams at 11a, with online registration available for $30 (including a pint at the finish).

Registration for the Grateful Dad Half Marathon goes up on May 8. Until then, the half is $69, the 10k is $54, and the 5k is $39. There are also special prices for youth to sign up for any distance. The race itself is on Saturday, June 16.

The next race in Eugene’s Taco Tuesday Twilight Trot Series is on May 8. Registration is $25 when done online ahead of time or $30 DOR. Runs start at Eclectic Edge’s office at 750 Commercial St and start at 6p; registration includes a taco bar and two drink tickets.

Still planning to run the Hippie Chick Quarter Marathon, 15k, and Half Marathon but haven’t registered yet? Register online for $80/$90/$95 by the 11th, or pay $85/$100/$120 DOR.

Prices for the Tualatin Blender Dash – a Kid’s Run – has a price increase on May 11. Save $5 for your kiddo and sign up before then. Until then it’s only $15 and comes with a cool pair of sunglasses. The run is on June 2 and includes elements of a color run, foam run, mud run, obstacle run, and an optional zombie run.

About Kelly Barten (919 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
