Small Race Preview: 2018 Sasquatch 50k & Relay (Galice)

If Bigfoot was hiding out somewhere, it might be a place like Galice, which is in the coastal range of Southern Oregon. If you’re up for a promising adventure, The 2018 Sasquatch 50k & Relay could be it. You can either run the 50k as a relay with two other runners or you could brave it alone and do the 50k ultra distance yourself. Either way, you’re in for some fun on the trails on May 19th, 2018!

97% of the race course is on single track trails and you’ll be among old growth timber and some gorgeous scenery. The race starts in Briggs Valley which has a history of mining and logging operations. Race headquarters will be at Sam Brown Campground where you are welcome to camp the night before and enjoy some lunch after completing your race.

Both the relay and the individual 50k will follow the same course, as the relay will just be split into 3 legs while the individual ultra runners will just keep trucking along until they reach the finish line. There will be 4 creek crossings, so make sure you bring an extra pair of shoes for the end. Elevation change on this race is “about” 59800 feet, and there will be a cut-off at 11:41AM if you haven’t reached the Lower Taylor Cree Trailhead by that time. There will be well stocked aid stations about every 5 miles as well as crew access at most of them. You can find more detail on what to expect for each of the three legs on the website.

The proceeds from this event will go to College Dreams  and Josephine County Search & Rescue.

Most of the activity for this event will be found on their Facebook page on a weekly basis, so check it out to see what it’s all about.  Then  lace up your running shoes and try to find Sasquatch!
