Race Preview: 2018 Vernonia Marathon & Half Marathon (Banks)

After years of driving past the Vernonia sign on the way to the coast, I’m so excited to be signed up for the Vernonia Half Marathon this spring. The weather this winter has been perfect for long runs, and with some flowers already sprouting up, this should be a gorgeous race. Add in the fact that a good portion of it is downhill. #Winning

Runners park or get dropped off at Banks Middle School, and then are bused to the starting lines: marathoners start in Vernonia while half marathoners are headed to Stub Stewart. Be sure to check the website for the bus transport times because it would be quite the shock to run 26.2 miles, to then run 26.2 miles back. The point-to-point paved trail promises a beautiful tree-lined course.

Along with the beautiful sights along the course, runners are promised water, Gatorade, Gu, and salty snacks at the aid stations (located every 2-3 miles). And then once we cross that finish line, it’s a medal, soup, baked potatoes, and other snacks to celebrate with. Last but not least: free showers (bring your towel). Did I mention #Winning?

Check out this spring race, and I hope to see you there.
