Race Preview: 2018 Owyhee Off-Road Challenge 5k/10k/Half Marathon (Adrian, OR)

If you’re looking for a beautiful adventure off the beaten path, come out to Adrian, OR for the 2018 Owyhee Off-Road Challenge on March 24th for the 5k, the 10k, or the Half Marathon. Consider getting a team together if you’d like to run with some friends and/or family (everyone can run different distances) and you’ll get a discount for 7 members or more. Walkers are welcome as well! This event is going to help raise funds for the practice facility at the Adrian High and Middle School track, which is currently made of dirt. The funds raised will help pay for a rubberized straight for runners to practice their starts, relay hand-offs, and hurdle events, which are very difficult on dirt.

The half marathon climbs 740 feet and 90% of the course will be on dirt roads and trails, with a total elevation gain of 1,740 feet.  The view of the Snake River Valley and the Owyhee River Valley is not to be missed!! There is a time limit of 4 hours and you can check out the course map here.

The 10k will take you on a loop through the scenic Snake River Valley and through the farmland of the Treasure Valley. There will be a 890 foot climb, but the view will make the challenge worth the journey. View the course map here.

The 5k is an out and back which runs one mile south on pavement and turns onto BLM dirt roads to climb about 200 feet to a view of the Snake River Valley below.

All of the races will start and finish at the Two Rivers Community Park in Adrian and will head south out of town before turning west into the hills. Parking will be available at the Adrian Elementary and High School as well as the surrounding streets. There will also be parking in the lots across the street from the park by the large storage sheds. Please be courteous of the residences in the area.

Due to the challenging nature of the courses, no baby joggers, strollers, carriers, etc are allowed. Dogs will also not be allowed.

There will not be age group awards in an effort to save money for the Adrian track improvements, but there will be results posted for the age group finishers in all the categories. There will also be post-race fruit, bagels, and chocolate and vanilla milk available to finishers.

Come out for an awesome experience that you won’t soon forget!
