2018 Races on our Radar #8: February 20

Welcome to a new year of the Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it. There are a few price bumps for longer races coming up, but since it’s apparently going to be snowpocalypse tonight, I’m including a few of my favorite low-price summer races for you to get on your calendar at the bottom of the post.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, be sure to let us know with our contact form. Tell us what you love about it and be sure to include a link.

If you love trail runs and excuses to go to the Oregon Coast, check out the Race to the Cape Fun Run. It’s about 10 miles, and the registration cost is only $30. The run is on Sunday, March 4 at Cape Lookout State Park and it is a pretty serious trail run.

The last day to register and be guaranteed a race shirt is March 4th for the 2018 Hop Hop Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k. the race is on Saturday, March 31.

The Willamette Valley Marathon and Half will have a price bump on the March 1. Currently the full is $85 and the half is $70; prices will jump to $90/$80 after that. The race is on Sunday, May 6 in Salem.

The Blooms to Brews Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, and 10k has a price increase on February 28. Until then, the marathon is $100, the half is $75, the 10k is $50, and the 4-person relay is $200. The race is on Sunday, April 29.

Reminder: The Peterson Ridge Rumble on Sunday, April 8, has a price bump coming up on February 28. Until then the 20-miler is $45 and the 40-miler is $55. After, the price jumps $10.

Registration is now open for the 2018 Bay to Brews, and the half marathon is currently only $69, the 10k is $49, and the 5k is $39. This Run With Paula race is Saturday, September 28 and starts at 8a in Newport. Also cool is your bib will come with a coupon for $10 off admission to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Plan ahead for summer:

Whenever someone asks me to suggest a low-price, flat 10k, I always recommend the Banks Linear Trail Run, which offers a 10k and a 5k for only $20. The race is Saturday, May 19 and starts/ends at Banks Elementary. The race is a fund raiser for the school’s technology program.

For the kiddos, we have the Blender Dash, running in Tualatin on Saturday, June 2. Sign up now for just $15 (it goes up in May to $20, but it always sells out) and you’ll get a pair of cool sunglasses and a Blender bandana. This is a run just for ages 6-15 and includes elements of a color run, mud run, foam run, obstacle run, and for the brave, a “zombie loop.”

A really fun, although not flat, race is the Outdoor Sunday Evenings 5k in Beaverton on Sunday, July 8. Registration is only $5 until June 24, and even then it’s only $10.

About Kelly Barten (847 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
