2018 Races on our Radar #3: January 16

Welcome to a new year of the Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, be sure to let us know with our contact form. Tell us what you love about it and be sure to include a link.

Run With Paula has a new race: the Beaverton Half Marathon and 5k on June 3. There is some special early-bird pricing available now: $69 for the half and $39 for the 5k. These prices are good through the end of the month.

The “Miles in Chiles” Portland Indoor Track Series Meet #2 is on January 24 (800m, mile, 3k). Following meets are: January 31 (events TBA), February 7 (800m, mile, 3k), and February 14 (3k).

The Run for Grace is this Saturday in Medford. This race is honoring the life of Grace Holt, who died at the young age of 15. Registration is only $10 and benefits the a scholarship fund.

Coming up next weekend is the Winter Predictor in Eugene, offering a 6k and a 13k. This is a cool race because it’s not the fastest runners who win, its those who are closest to their predicted finish time. Best of all, the race is only $20 online or $25 day of race.

Do you like free beer and free race entries? Register to volunteer at the next Oregon Brewery Series 5k on February 10th at the Portland Cider Co. in Clackamas, and you’ll get a free beer for your efforts and a registration to a future run!

The Boring Marathon (and its family of events) has a price increase on February 1. Before that date, the full is $60, the half is $35, the 8k is $20, and the “Really Boring Relay” is $55. The race is on Sunday, September 16 in Boring, Ore.

Some Hood to Coast Race Series races have price increases coming up on January 29:

Registration for the Roaring Run Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k closes on February 1. This is a great race at a great price: $45 for the half, $35 for the 10k, and $30 for the 5k.

Finally, plan ahead for the Jumpstart Valentine’s Run in The Dalles. The run is on Saturday, February 10, and includes a 3k, 5k, and 10k. It’s only $10 if you sign up without ordering a shirt via the mail-in form, or $15 DOR.

That’s it for this edition. Keep us posted on what’s on your radar!

About Kelly Barten (942 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
