2018 Races on our Radar #2: January 9

Welcome to the latest in the Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, be sure to let us know with our contact form. Tell us what you love about it and be sure to include a link.

The “Miles in Chiles” Portland Indoor Track Series returns to the University of Portland’s Chiles Center starting on January 17. On that night, there’s a mile, 150m, and 800m. The other meets are January 24 (800m, mile, 3k), January 31 (events TBA), February 7 (800m, mile, 3k), and February 14 (3k).

This Saturday is the January race in the PRC Winter 5k Series. It starts at 9a from their Beaverton store off Scholls Ferry by the 217. You can sign up for $30, which includes a delicious hot breakfast from Stanford’s after the race.

There are still a few spots open in the Hood to Coast Pacific City! The relay is Saturday, May 5 and is $800 through January 31. It’s a one-day, 6-person relay, so you may not even need to rent a van.

The Rogue Run Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k had to be cancelled last year due to smoke and fires, but it’s back for 2018. Scheduled for Sunday, September 16, the prices are best if you sign up by the 10th of January. Currently, the marathon is $75, the half is $50, and the 10k is $45. January 11, prices for the longer races jump $10 and the 10k by $5.

Next week on January 16th, there’s a price bump for the Foot Traffic Flat. The marathon will go from $79 to $88, the half from $66 to $70, and the 10k from $46 to $50. The race is on July 4th at Sauvie Island.

Formerly called the Trail Factor 50k/Half, the Stumptown Trail Runs registration is now open and the prices are set until January 18 at $90 for the 50k and $55 for the half. The runs are over Memorial Day Weekend; the half is on Saturday, May 26 and the 50k is on Monday, May 28.

And last but not least – we’ve got a contest on our Facebook page to give away a free entry to the Worst Day of the Year Run. Simply tag a friend and you’re entered to the drawing. Tag more than one friend and you get multiple chances to win. You can tag someone thru January 11th and then we’ll pick a winner. The Worst Day of the Year Run is on February 3 at Edgefield.

Have a great week, friends!

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
