Race Preview: PRC Winter 5k Series #2 (Portland)

Staying active through the winter months is always a challenge for me, since the weather is less pleasant, and it gets dark early in the evening. So naturally, to stay motivated, I need to sign up for races. Run with Paula’s PRC Winter 5k series is perfect: There’s a 5k in December, January, and February, rain or shine or snow! Last year we had ice on the first race, snow on the second, and dry pavement on the third.

The December race took place on the 16th (read Kelly’s recap here), and the next in the series will be on January 13. You can sign up online for just $30 for the chip timed race. On race morning, the store opens at 7:30am to pick up bibs, do some shopping, and mingle with other runners. The race starts at 9am at the start line a block to the north from the store (on Gemini St.) and follows the same course for all three races. After the run, breakfast is served inside the store, and it’s something delicious from Stanford’s!

If you’ve already run race #1 and have the race shirt, remember to bring the shirt to race #2 to get the second race’s badge ironed on the sleeve. Figure out your pacing on this race, because race #3 will be a predictor race where no timing devices are allowed, and the winner is determined by guessing your finish time correctly.
