Make a Day of It: The Second City’s A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens! (December 5-31, 2017)

The Second City’s A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens

Run Oregon loves running – that’s no surprise. But we also love the Pacific Northwest and all that it has to offer. Running is a part of us, but it does not fully define us. In our new “Make a Day of It” feature, we aim to showcase some great local non-running events and highlight where to run and how to make the most of your experience!

The next installment of this series is The Second City’s A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!

First the Running:

Portland has many races throughout the year, so we recommend checking out our race calendar for all your scheduling needs. Portland Center Stage: At the Armory, which is where The Second City’s A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens is playing is also in the heart of the Pearl District in Portland.

There are many running routes in and around Portland, such as the Waterfront Run (very flat and scenic) and Leif Erikson Trail to name a few. The Armory is located in the middle of these two routes. I love running the Waterfront loop, first off it is very flat, and the scenery is amazing. The loop takes you from the Sellwood Bridge and guides you along the waterfront on both sides of the Willamette River (you eventually cross the Steele Bridge and head back to the Sellwood Bridge). This run goes through the Eastbank Esplanade, Oaks Bottom, the Springwater Corridor, Willamette Park, the South Waterfront, and Tom McCall Waterfront Park. It is around 11 miles long, and is very friendly for walkers and runners. You can also cut your run shorter by crossing another bridge, the choice is yours.Untitled

Now to the details to the experience itself:

I have lived in Portland for all my life, and been to several events at the Armory. In the past few years, The Armory has completely redesigned itself into a staple building in the Pearl District. It’s renovation has provided both near-term economic benefit of $14.7 million to the community and is even projected to impact $100 million in new economic activity long-term impact over the next decade. It is a beautiful building, and has even recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the greenest buildings in America.

The Second City’s A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens! will be on the US Bank Main Stage at Portland Center Stage, At the Armory. This show is a complete rendition on the holiday classic A Christmas Carol, with adult humor and will feature the comedy troupe The Second City. Twist Your Dickens includes holiday sketches and improv based on the audience and their participation. The show will last approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, including one intermission.

Things to note: Twist Your Dickens is recommended for ages 14 and up. It contains mature content and language, strobe lighting and theatrical haze. The use of one tobacco-free vapor e-cigarette will be used. Children under the age of 6 are not permitted at this, or any other production at The Armory.

Come out and make a day of it!
