Race Preview: 2017 Jingle Bell Run 5k (Portland)

I love it when a race is a good excuse to support a great cause because it’s a win-win for everyone. There are a lot of great causes to choose from, but a friend of mine has a daughter with juvenile arthritis, and that makes the Jingle Bell Run 5k, which supports the Arthritis Foundation, that much more personal for me. Thinking about little kids with swollen joints in need of weekly injections just kind of breaks my heart and there is just so much that still needs to happen to find a cure for this disease. The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is the longest-standing festive race around and 100 percent of the registration fee and fundraising efforts go to charity. You can run or walk or even just donate.. All of it goes to a very good place.

The Jingle Bell Run has a few options for you on December 3rd. You can do the 5k either timed or untimed ($5 difference in price, which increases after Nov 1st.) You’ll get a shirt and some jingle bells with that, as well as a racing bib if you sign up for the timed option. You could also upgrade to the Jingle Bell Express Pass which includes express packet pick-up and gear check, a shirt, a unique race bib, and some extra swag along with your jingle bells. There’s also a 1 Mile option which will get you a shirt and jingle bells, or if you don’t want to run but still want to support the cause, register for the Jingle in Your Jammies for $30 and you’ll still get a shirt. Lastly, there’s a Kids Run With the Elves (ages 12 & under) and kids get shirts and jingle bells. There’s truly something for everyone and it’s a great way to get in the holiday spirit and support a great charity.

There will be a holiday costume contest and an ugly holiday sweater contest before the races begin, so you gotta check those out. The kids will take off for their run at 8:30AM and the 5k begins at 8:50AM so those of you who want to run with your kids and then race yourselves will have the opportunity to do that!

I am already planning to get out and run this and I will also be registering both of my boys for the kid’s races. We’ll be there with our bells on. How about you?
