Race Preview: 2017 Eola Hills No Hills Harvest Run 5K & 10K (Rickreall)

Those familiar with Oregon’s Willamette Valley area know the beautiful rolling hills and myriad farms and wineries. There are a few “wine runs” to choose from, but none can boast a fast and flat course like the Eola Hills Wine Cellars can.

Contrary to their name, the terrain of this course is fast and flat. The out-and-back 10K starts in the parking lot and heads south on the well paved bike path that runs along side Highway 99W. The 5K is a shorter out and back of the 10K, heading south on bike path to Orrs Corner; west to Riddell Road; south on Riddell Road approximately 0.25 miles to turnaround; return to starting point. The race will be will be chip timed by Race Northwest.

Matt ran the race last year and had this to say:

The race lived up to its name – as it was definitely a flat course tucked amongst a variety of hills in the area. There were only slight variations in elevation on some turns, but they were minimal at best. There was also a short unpaved section (Bowersville Rd.), but other than that you are just looking at 4 total (!) turns and a curve around the out-and-back. It doesn’t get much simpler and faster than that.

After the race, there was free and delicious pizza from Monmouth’s Yeasty Beasty and free wine from Eola Hills. The atmosphere was warm and inviting as wet, sweaty, and tired runners relaxed among the wine barrels. The winery is definitely a place that I want to return to – and evidently will have plenty of opportunity to do so, with their wide array of events. I also want to run this race again, as it’s the perfect one to mark on the calendar for PR purposes!

Willamette Valley Road Runners are a part of RRCA

After your run, enjoy the company of fellow runners and walkers in the winery. Put on by the Willamette Valley Road Runners Club, this race donates ALL proceeds to Dallas High School and Central High School track and cross country programs-I love races that give back to local running programs! This race always sells out so make sure you register TODAY! (Last year 142 10K participants and 154 5K run/walkers finished).

While you don’t have to be 21+ to run the race, you do have to be to sample the post-race vino or beer. Pizza will be that is hand made on-site will be served to all participants, as well as an assortment of sodas.
