Race Preview: 2017 Autumn Trails (Eugene)

I’m not going to lie, running in November can be a bit of a gamble if you don’t like running in the rain. However, autumn is the time of year that I feel really grateful to be a runner in Oregon, because when it’s good, it’s really beautiful. It’s my favorite time of year to get out there and run, and this year’s Autumn Trails Run by Level 32 Racing on November 5th would be a great opportunity to do just that.

Distances for this race are approximate and you have several options depending on what you feel like running: There’s a 3.5 mile, a 6 mile, a 10 mile, or a 16 mile option. The courses are “organic,” meaning the length of the race is going to be determined by the length of the trail. All the courses start and finish near Frank Kinney Park in South Eugene and all the distances begin with a loop on the Rexius Trail and climb up the Amazon Headwaters Trail to Fox Hollow Road. The 6 mile course will loop onto the Dillard Road connector trail, and the 10 miler includes a spur to Willamette and Dillard. The 16 mile course will include a spur out to Blanton Heights, South Willamette, and the Dillard connector trail. You can also view the course map here.

There will be 5 well stocked aid stations on the course and the top 3 overall male and females for each distance will receive custom wooden medallions. The top 3 in each age group will get medals and there will be 3 pairs of Altra running shoes awarded randomly.

No matter which course you take, you’ll find something to love about this small race in Eugene. You can’t beat the prices.. only $30 for the 16 and 10 milers and $25 for the 6 and 3.5 miler. It’s an additional $12 if you would like to receive a tech shirt with your entry, but I would recommend you hurry, as there will be a limited amount of them for sale on race day.
