I have a special place in my heart for the Hell of the Northwest event. A photo of my husband and I at the start line was even featured in our wedding announcement. I was just breaking into the distance running scene and they offered a 25K – a challenge I naively accepted. It is also the only race that has made me shed tears. I’ll never forget my own shortcomings, but also the incredible challenge I overcame that day. And how freaking sweet those trails are! Race director Mike puts on great events and this one is no exception.
I’d like to think I’ve grown as a runner since that difficult day, and they’ve no doubt grown as an event. While they no longer have that 25K course available, they do have a half marathon, a 10K, or a 5K to enjoy. The half marathon has about 2,000 feet of gain and the 10k about 1,000 feet. They are all on the beautiful trails of the Alsea Falls Recreation Area.
Since this event is just before Halloween (Saturday, October 21st), the best costumed male and female (and junior) runners will receive a prize! If you’re planning to dress up, use the coupon code ‘costume’ during registration to save $5. Also included with registration is a post-race BBQ – you will have earned it!
