Races on our Radar #40

Here’s what Run Oregon has been keeping an eye on this week. Remember, if you know a really cool small race, a low-cost run or free group run, an important registration deadline, or other fun running news, please send it our way so we can share it with our readers!

  • Free group run: Remember, this Saturday is the October Run with a Researcher at the University of Oregon’s campus in Eugene. It’s a free group run and walk where you get a chance to meet and talk to leading researched from the university’s faculty.
  • Get your ticket: Portland Running Company is spearheading an effort to bring a screening of the Boston Marathon documentary to Portland on Wednesday, October 25 at Fox Tower Stadium Theater, starting at 7:30p. They need at least 50 people to reserve tickets ($11.75 each) for the event to happen, so if you want to go, be sure to book before October 13! Learn more and book online here.
  • Love trails? The Portland Trail Series (Fall) filled up pretty darn quick, but you can register DOR if there are no-shows for the last two races. No one can really guarantee whether or not you’ll actually get a spot, but you can give it a try starting at 6p on the evening of October 11 and October 25.
  • Need motivation for spring? The Portland Trail Series (Spring) opens registration on October 26, 2017.
  • How about a half: The weather’s going to be nice this Sunday, October 8, so why not jump in the Oregon Women’s Half Marathon and 5k if you’re not busy? Put on by Pink Buffalo Racing, this Eugene race is $70 for the half and $30 on race day.
  • Or how about this half: Run With Paula also has a lovely half marathon coming up – the Newport Bay to Brews. The half is $75, the 10k is $49, and the 5k is $39 for this October 14th race in Newport. The 5k is new this year; all courses finish at Rogue Brewery.
  • Mud, mud, and more mud: The Detroit Lake Mud Run is a really cool race. It runs 5.1 miles on the drained Detroit Lake lakebed, and if you sign up online it’s only $25 ($40 day of race). It’s at 9a on Saturday, October 14 in Detroit, Ore.

That’s all for this installment.

About Author

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
