Race Preview: 2017 Runaway Pumpkin Half Marathon and 8K (Lebanon)

Now in it’s 7th year, the Runaway Pumpkin Half Marathon and 8K Race continues its tradition to raise money for the ABC House, which is the child abuse intervention center serving Benton and Linn counties. The mission of this organization is to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect, supporting children as they find their voice and helping children and families heal and thrive.

Each year, Cheadle Lake Park is transformed into a spooky, fun Halloween-themed Pumpkin Village for racers and their families to enjoy! Halloween costumes by everyone are encouraged and there is a costume contest before the races start! There is also a Kids Zone with fun games and activities and a beer and cider garden for the adults.

The actual races themselves are moderate ability level and mostly asphalt, with a few sections of dirt and gravel. Both races run along the country roads near the park and alongside of the South Santiam River. The out-and-back loop course offers the chance to run along either side of the river by pretty farmlands and run through a pair of bridge crossings before heading back in to the race finish line. This race is rain or shine!

Half Marathon participants will receive a Tech Shirt, a reusable goodie bag filled with gifts and coupons, and a finisher’s medal.  8K participants will receive a Tech Shirt and Runaway Pumpkin insulated lunch bag.  After you finish the race, stick around for the award ceremonies – top 3 age group winners and top 3 overall! Woo hoo!
