The 2017 Willamette Headwaters Endurance Events (WHEE), sponsored by GU, Green Layer, and Eugene Running Company, will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Per usual, they will be holding their three distances: 11, 22, or 33 miles. Gaining approximately 1400, 2800, and 5500 feet respectively, you’ll want to WHEE (x3) all the way home!
If you’ve never run an ultra before, and don’t plan to at this event either, you’ll at least get a little taste of how spoiled ultrarunners can be – each aid station, no matter which distance you’re running, will be stocked with GU gels and chews, candy, trail mix, PB&Js, potato chips, GU Brew, Coke, Ginger Ale…the whole 9 yards. Also, the 22 and 33 milers have the option to leave a drop bag and all finishers will receive post-race snacks and ‘light dinner’.
In addition to great food, and a good hill challenge, this race is in the gorgeous Willamette National Forest in Oakridge, which means incredible singletrack is on the docket, and will feature some water crossings – so pack your drop bag accordingly.
