Portland Marathon Clinic Free Long Run for Saturday, September 16, 2017

Only a few Portland Marathon Clinic training runs left before the race! It was announced earlier this week that the race’s permit was finally approved, so registrants have been breathing sighs of relief knowing they’ll get a bib to pin on for their money.

This Saturday’s run offers 16 and 20 mile routes, leaving from the Road Runner Sports in NW Portland. The exact address is at 29 NW 23rd, and is just of Burnside and NW 23rd in the Uptown Shopping Center. Remember not to park in their ramp, as you’ll get ticketed. There is street parking in that neighborhood, or you can park at a surface lot. There is one at NW 23rd and Glisan that you can use.

As usual, the run will start promptly at 8a and all participants are reminded to bring their own hydration and nutrition for the run. The route will head to the river on NW Everett (stopping at lights of course) and then run south along the waterfront, under the Hawthorne, and past the Tram to Tilikum Crossing to get to the east side. From there, the route heads onto the Springwater Corridor for some nice, flat miles. The trail breaks in Sellwood, so the pacers will lead you up SE Umatilla St. to SE 19th, at which point those running only 16 will turn around. Runners going 20 will continue south to the Springwater connector and run about a third of a mile past the crossing at SE Johnson Creek Boulevard before heading back.

I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
