Races on our Radar #37

The Best Dam Run 10k in on Saturday, September 23 in Estacada.

Here’s what Run Oregon has been keeping an eye on this week. Remember, if you know a really cool small race, an important registration deadline, or other fun running news, please send it our way so we can share it with our readers!

  • Forest fires have cancelled a number of events, but the Bridge of the Goddess Half Marathon and 10k is literally rising from the ashes by moving the race to Vancouver. Same date (September 16th – this Saturday) and time, just a new location – Esther Short Park. Proceeds will benefit three local non-profits supporting the Gorge. Save $10 when you register before Friday!
  • Looking for something else to do this Saturday? The “Conquer Chiari Walk Across America” is a free community walk this Saturday, September 16 in Salem. The goal of the walk is to raise awareness of a medical condition called Chiari Malformation, a neurological disorder with wide-ranging symptoms from severe headaches to balance problems. The walk starts at 10a from the Oregon State Capitol.
  • The Reed College 5k is this Saturday, September 16, and raises funds to support Portland Public School’s Duniway, Grout, Lewis, Llewellyn, and Woodstock Elementary Schools. The race starts at 8a at Reed College and is $35 to sign up including day of race.
  • A really beautiful race running this Saturday is Newport’s Twisted Pine Marathon, Half Marathon and 5-Miler. You can still sign up for $70/$55/$45 as long as you do so online by the end of Thursday the 14th.
  • Eugene usually has a great schedule of $25 5k races, and Sunday’s Race For the Ace is one of them. Running at 11a from Maurie Jacobs Park in Eugene, Race For the Ace benefits the Children’s Miracle Network. Sign up by Saturday for $25 online here.
  • Another race that had to be called off is the Hood to Coast Series’ Pints to Pasta, which was to run in Hood River. They are offering a free, non-timed Fun Run/Walk and Tailgate on Saturday, September 23rd in West Linn. RSVP on facebook here. NOTE: The original race was scheduled for Sunday, September 24th, the free run is on the 23rd.
  • And if you would rather do a timed race on September 23rd, sign up for the ORRC Best Dam Run 10k for $40. This race in Estacada is a nice, downhill point-to-point race (except for one stinker of a hill near the 5th mile). You can before September 20th. This race has a registration cap at 750 participants and offers different starts for walkers and runners.
  • A race sure to draw a lot of runners from the Beaverton area on September 23rd is the Mountainside High School Community 5k. This race will start and finish at the brand new high school at the corner of Roy Rogers Road and SW Scholls Ferry. Adults can run for $30 and BSD employees and students can run for only $20. There’s also a little kid’s race for $10. Online registration closes on September 22. There’s no course posted, but you can expect hills.
  • Do you like beer? How about beer miles? There’s one in Lebanon running on Saturday, September 23, sponsored by the Growler Cafe and Dutch Bros. Coffee. Registration (for 21+ only) is $20 online here.

That’s all for this installment.

About Author

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
