Race Preview: 38th Annual Prefontaine 10K Run (Coos Bay)

The 38th annual Prefontaine Memorial Run will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 in Coos Bay. As runners, we’ve all heard of Steve Prefontaine and this run is held in his hometown on one of his favorite high school training routes.

The course is a rolling and challenging out and back beginning in downtown Coos Bay, passing by the Prefontaine family residence, and finishing on the Marshfield High School track. There will also be a “fun walk” option of the 10k course or a shorter, 2-mile course.

This race generally has a very competitive field (and has been designated as the Road Runners Club of America Oregon State Championship 10K Race), but is welcoming to runners of all paces. There is also an OSAA-sanctioned high school team 5k competition, which will have a separate start time. All events on race day will be chip timed by Eclectic Edge Racing. Overall and five-year age group (with the first three finishers in each division) will receive awards.

Come run like it’s 1969 and enjoy the coast!
