One of the many wonderful things about being a runner in Oregon is the beautiful landscape we get to run through, especially if you are a trail runner. The Swiftwater Trail Runs, now in it’s 3rd year, is a great choice as it gives you the chance to race through the open forest, the Pacific Northwest “rainforests,” across flat stretches to massive hills and then along the gorgeous North Umpqua River on either your half marathon or 50K race.
The start of both the 50k and the 1/2 Marathon, which is a new option this year, is at the Mott Trailhead on the North Umpqua Trail. With around 5,500 ft elevation gain and another 6,500 ft loss, be sure to pace yourself for some hard work for the entire race. Both courses provide several terrain changes – rocky at the start, transitioning to hilly and root-strewn, open and exposed to densely forested. Watch your step, but enjoy the views!
At the finish line, enjoy post race BBQ and drinks and receive your finisher’s socks (how cool!). Awards are given to first place for Open and Masters and Overall top 3 for both races. Overall winners receive free entry to next year’s race!
Since this race is kind of out there for most people, it should be noted that there is lots of camping available nearby, particularly the Susan Creek Campground which is the dedicated race finish area. It has hot showers and toilets, woo hoo! There will be a shuttle that runs racers from the campground to the start on race day.
With only 200 available spots, this race is sure to fill up! Get signed up now!
