Portland Marathon Clinic Free Long Run for Saturday, August 19, 2017

This weekend, the PMC will be running 16 miles (they’re in the “castle” portion of the training where runners do 20-16-20-16) from the NW Portland Road Runner Sports Location at 29 NW 23rd place (just off Burnside and NW 23rd). Important note: Don’t park in the shopping center’s lot – you’ll get a ticket! Instead look for a 5-hour meter on the street, take the streetcar, or park elsewhere and walk to the run. As usual, the run will start promptly at 8a.

This weekend’s route will start out running straight to the waterfront and then head south to the Tilikum Crossing. Once on the east side, you’ll run behind OMSI and the Portland Opera and then to the Springwater Corridor for an out-and-back route.

The pace group leaders are all volunteers – be sure to thank them for their time and dedication! If you’re up for it, $5 Starbucks card or some other small gift will also brighten their day. I was a PMC leader one summer and even though it’s a lot of fun, it’s also a huge commitment, and the leaders appreciate your thanks.

Even though there are aid stations on the route, you should bring your own hydration and nutrition. Be prepared for sun (although the temps should stay cool) and make sure you’ve got a snack and dry clothes for after the run.

Also remember that you’ve got just a few more weeks to buy your ticket for the Brunch Run, which will take place on Saturday, September 9. This is a point-to-point run with brunch served at the finish; the $10 ticket covers your food and the buses which will get you to the start. You can buy the tickets online here or at a Saturday run.

About Kelly Barten (755 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
